MASON CITY, I.A., August 16, 2011 ñ United Way’s Annual Kick-Off Program and Head to Toe Event are this Thursday, August 18 at Music Man Square. The Kick-off program will be at 3.15 p.m. Please join us in learning about United Way’s work and goals for their 2011 campaign. Plus, the premiere of “MAKE YOUR MARK” the 2011 Campaign Video featuring local people; some who have utilized United Way services in their life and are now advocating on the organization’s behalf, others who are volunteering with United Way to make their mark on north central Iowa.
Following the Kick-off, the first ever HEAD TO TOE event will be happening from 4 p.m. ñ 7 p.m. at Music Man. People who need a little extra help getting the kids ready for school are encouraged to attend. Families can visit with representatives from multiple community organizations that will help them prepare for school and be successful throughout the year. Students will be entered to win a free Notebook Computer courtesy of Monroe Storage, redeem essential “back to school items” that were collected at Walmart’s Stuff the Bus event, and choose their free pair of tennis shoes courtesy of United Way of North Central Iowa’s Shoe Drive.
The United Way of North Central Iowa’s Shoe Drive was successful in collecting nearly 700 pairs of new to gently used athletic shoes. The employees of Principal Financial, Mercy Medical Center ñ North Iowa, First Citizens National Bank, and Hy-Vee were generous donors, as well as numerous community members. In addition, the Mason City Walmart donated $1500 of brand new athletic shoes to the cause.
Youth must be present to redeem their shoes, and can receive 1 pair each. Items are available on a first come first serve basis and available until supplies last. All students, kindergarten through high school, from all over north central Iowa are eligible to redeem shoes, and other back to school essentials. We ask that people redeem these supplies only if they are in need, as supplies are limited.
