Film lovers enjoy cool weekend in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE, IA—Film lovers are getting a break from the heat and enjoying a wealth of movies in air conditioned comfort this weekend.

The 5th annual Iowa Independent film festival is being held through Sunday evening at the Clear Lake Arts Center.

It features 2 screening rooms and a third is located at The Hub in the New Zion Church youth center.

The event features more than 40 highly rated new feature movies, documentaries, short subjects and some student productions.

A number of actors, directors and movie makers from Hollywood and across the country are expected, including a documentary crew from Australia.

They are being hosted by the festival’s founder, Mason City native Tanna Frederick.

She is screening “Virtually Yours,” her recent movie about the mishaps of on-line dating.

Other films include the much anticipated documentaries, “Fuel,” which is a look at the gas crisis and how to resolve it.

Another is the winner of the “Best Short Documentary Award.”

“Earthship Haiti” is an account of new homes built with old tires and recyclable materials for survivors of the earthquake in Haiti.

Sunday, the final day of the festival will include a full schedule of films from 12-6 p.m.
