Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds today announced the launch of a series of town hall meetings focusing on education in Iowa. The series of seven town hall meetings will be held over two weeks prior to the administration’s Iowa Education Summit, which will take place July 25-26, 2011 in Des Moines, Iowa.

“Iowa’s youth need a world-class education in order to compete in the 21st-century, knowledge-based, global economy,” said Branstad. “I am excited to hear what ideas Iowans have to restore Iowa as a leader in providing a superior education to our children.”

The Iowa Education Summit will focus on increasing teacher and principal effectiveness, raising academic standards and putting in place strong matching assessments and innovation that increases learning.

“In recent years, Iowa has dropped from being a leader in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) tests to the middle of the pack,” said Reynolds. “We look forward to the dialogue with Iowans and hearing their feedback on policies and ideas for improving the quality of education in Iowa.”
