Cannonball Day event raises money for locomotive

A little bit of rain didn’t dampen the fun at East Park for Cannonball Day. Cannonball Day is an annual fund raising event to restore and preserve the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad steam locomotive in East Park. It is a day where the family can come out and have fun. The kids can get involved in a tractor pull, play in the inflatable playground, get their face painted by Half Pint the Clown, ride Smokey the Train and try wall climbing. Wall climbing was provided by the US Army.

From blocks away you can smell the BBQ. The Lion’s Club provided the mouth watering Chicken BBQ. For $8.00 you could get a 1/2 Chicken Dinner or for $6.00 you could a 1/4 Chicken Dinner. Donald Chipman and his crew of Chad, Mike and Craig provided delicious, peaches and cream corn on the cob, made with their “Party Cookers Dream”.

There was also tours of the 457, The Bill Riley Iowa State Talent Show and Live Bands that went on into the evening.
