Choices (by Peter Children)

(Op-ed submitted by Peter J. Children)

We are all aware that Turncoat’s term does not come up for another two years, however now is the time to begin planing for someone with character and integrity to step into that position. Someone who does not lie or has their head up the mayor’s rectum.

My choice would be Sandy Servantez, the same girl the mayor refused to grant an interview, the same girl he had removed from the podium as she tried to speak. I think she would make an outstanding councilwoman to represent this city in its entirety. I do not think Sandy has her own private tennis court, maybe she is one of those everyday housewives who can’t play tennis, or just can’t fit it in after working and taking care of her family. That said, I want you to know that some of my best friends are tennis players. Just how bittersweet could that be for the beer drinker? But the best part and the real winner would be the city and the people living here. We could get Turncoat off the table and replace him with someone who I think will not lie. (You all remember the tape don’t you/).

If you don’t think these puppets are not making plans to gain a seat on the table this coming November….well then you should turn in your drivers license because you are crazy. In a democratic society its all about votes. If you care about how this city is run, you must vote. Lets talk about voting for a minute. The late Mike Sweesy and I used to vote together. We ate lunch together 5 days a week for 35 years…until he died. During our lunch hour we’d go to the polling place, we both voted at the same location, and we’d cast our vote. We never missed….ever, not once; and we voted in every election no matter what it was for.

Stop and pause for a moment; do you hear on television and read in the papers about the young men dying abroad fighting the insurgents who want to destroy this country? They are giving their young lives so we can have the choice to live in a democratic society with freedom of choice….and 80% of you do not bother to vote. That’s right, only 20% vote. That is a national disgrace. There is no excuse not to vote, none, not one. By casting your vote you are validating the lives lost so you can go into a voting booth and preform that simple task of deciding how you ant to live and who you want to represent you. If you neglect this precious act that is the envy of the world….then every soldier who gave their life for us has died in vain. I am not a veteran, I never served in any military branch, but to me the most important citizens living in this country are those how offered their own lives to ensure our freedom. Alive or dead, they go to the front of the line.

Many of my own friends did not vote; they left it to others then were the first to complain when things did not go the way they wanted. Think of all the people living all over the world who are not allowed to voice their opinion, where there is no vote to cast. I hope those of you who now read these words realize how the beer drinker and his lackey’s got to that table…they were sent there by those of you who did not vote. I can only hope you will not make the same mistake again….
