EUGENE, Ore. ñ The University of Northern Iowa track & field program will be represented by four former athletes at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships taking place at historic Hayward Field from June 23-26. Holli Hosch (800m), Tyler Mulder (800m), Jacob Pauli (pole vault) and Shayla Houlihan (3,000m steeplechase) will be competing with the nation’s premiere track & field athletes in their respective events.| EUGENE, Ore. ñ The University of Northern Iowa track & field program will be represented by four former athletes at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships taking place at historic Hayward Field from June 23-26. Holli Hosch (800m), Tyler Mulder (800m), Jacob Pauli (pole vault) and Shayla Houlihan (3,000m steeplechase) will be competing with the nation’s premiere track & field athletes in their respective events.
Hosch and Mulder will open competition with the first of three rounds in the 800m on Thursday afternoon.
The semifinals will follow on Friday, with the finals scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Pauli is slated to compete in the men’s pole vault at noon on Saturday. Houlihan will run in the steeplechase semifinals on Friday evening with a chance to qualify for Sunday’s final.
Hosch concluded her UNI career as the Missouri Valley Conference all-time record-holder in the outdoor 800m, as well as holding the UNI school records at indoor 600m, indoor 800m and outdoor 800m. She also earned second-team All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Mulder currently competes for Nike’s Oregon Track Club Elite. He wrapped up his collegiate career at UNI in June 2009 as the most decorated athlete in school history, earning eight All-America honors along with winning the 2008 NCAA Indoor 800m title. In 2010, he took third at the USA Indoor Championships and fourth at the USA Outdoor Championships in the 800m.
Pauli earned a total of five All-American citations ñ three indoor and two outdoor ñ over his UNI career, and in 2001 he captured the NCAA Indoor national title in the event. Pauli claimed six MVC championships in the pole vault, earning him a spot on the MVC All-Centennial Team. He finished fifth at the 2008 Olympic Trials and was selected as an alternate for the United States team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Houlihan competed for UNI from 2004-07 and held the 3,000m steeplechase school record until this season. She placed sixth in the event at the 2010 USATF Outdoor Championships.
