Something needs to be done (By Peter J. Children)

(Op-ed submitted by Peter J. Children)

Something needs to be done, no one should have to wait another two & a half years until the mayor’s term expires. If there is anyone out there in cyber-space who knows anything about special elections, please speak up. Our current mayor is a major mistake, but not the only mistake serving this city in an elected capacity. To save money maybe we could take care of the rest at the same time.

I see this city in a different light than most; my memory stretches back further in time to when character and individual thinking meant something, when council persons actually had something to contribute to the process before them. Now we are only getting fifty-cents on the dollar for our money.

After all this time do you really need a re-cap? Unless your vision is impaired along with your hearing…you already know who I am talking about…its plain as the nose on your face. Which council members constantly vote in conjunction with whatever issues the mayor proposes? Bingo! There is your answer, its all in the record. If this beer drinker made a motion to burn down the building, Tom Meyer would approve it and Turncoat, Solberg Hickey would be searching for gasoline and matches.

During the last council meeting on June 7th, the exhibitionism performed by the above mentioned three council persons almost reached a level of indecency in competing for approval from Trout and the guy all the breweries dream about. Turncoat called Trout the “C.E.O.” repeatedly in discussing measures brought forth by Trout, Solberg tried to match him in her adoration but fell somewhat short. The most sickening display of pandering came from the Second Ward representative, Hickey. His pandering to Trout bordered on sexual solicitation. If you do not believe me; view the tape. He indicated he was in awe of Trout’s salary of $144,000.00 a year by the mere fact that he mentioned it. He became flushed in the face, struggled to find the right words then gushed out with a deceleration of complete and total compliance of anything and everything Trout ever wished for. It made me nauseous. Maybe like Turncoat, he is starting to spend too much time looking in the mirror. We all deserve better than this, this is not what we paid for. The puppet master pulls the strings and pushes the buttons and these three light up and become automated; have they no conscience, even a street walker has some pride.

It should also be mentioned that councilman Hickey holds a responsible position with a nationally known company, and is considered to be quite competent in his proformance. It is only when he is in the presence of these false prophets that he falls apart.

Now let’s take a close look across the table at Weaver, Marsters and Nelson. Not only do they not agree all the time with the mayor, but at times they don’t even agree amongst themselves. These are working councilman…with a thought process. They work for you, and compared to the other three…these three are vastly underpaid. I can assure you they do not hob-nob with the beer drinker at the Country Club following the council meeting. Don Nelson has put Trout on the hot seat over proposed department changes at City Hall; so much so that Trout had the measure pulled from the last council meeting. Nelson is asking why and wherefore. One of the questions is what is the justification of paying Kevin Jacobson $6,000.00 to $7,000.00 a year to assume duties of the Human Resources department when Tom Meyer was being paid $46,000.00 for the same job? How can anyone rationally explain that? When Trout explains this to Nelson is he going to bring out a smoke machine and set up the mirrors?

Nelson is not totally sold on the need for an assistant city administrator. He has compared Trout’s work load to previous city administrators whose duties at times exceeded Trouts, and none of them required an assistant. This is a councilman who worries about your money and just where every dollar is spent.

It’s rumored that Bookmeyer has picked an opponent to run against Weaver this coming November. Nothing has been announced one way or another as yet but the smart money is betting on Alex Kuhn to become the latest to get in the ring with Max. At this time I really don’t know much about this young man; I do know he has a position with Henkel Construction and with it comes an impressive title. He was also featured recently in an article centering on his private all grass tennis court surrounded by various dignitaries who specialize in that sort of thing. Sounds like “a man of the people”, you think? I don’t think Max plays tennis…maybe he could learn. If you want to see what an all grass tennis court looks like, just click on this link.

It’s further rumored that he’s the coach for councilman Hickey’s son who plays baseball in the little leagues. Wake up! You know people, they only need to win one seat at the table to make every vote 4 to 2. If that happens you can bend over, grab your ankles and kiss your ass goodbye.

I wonder how many reading this blog realize that all three; Nelson, Marsters & Weaver are up for re-election this November? There is also an account set up at U.S. Bank where contributions can be made. I should go on to say that neither of the three has asked that this account be created. Having said that, any amount, no matter how small will be appreciated. I don’t have to tell you that none of the three mentioned has their own private tennis court…if you get my drift.

Do you really think the Globe would print this article? Not a chance in hell.
