(MASON CITY, IA) With the return of high gas prices, Mason City Public and Para Transit will join with other public transit systems across Iowa and the nation to participate in the sixth annual Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 16. This day emphasizes that public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money.
Mason City Council members unanimously approved the request by Pat Otto, Transit Director, to allow anyone to try Mason City Public or Para Transit for free on that day. Although gas prices have dropped in the past few weeks; they are still $1.00 per gallon higher than they were a year ago. According to the latest American Public Transit Association’s (APTA) Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-car household can save an average of more that $10,000 annually by downsizing to one car.
This year’s slogan is “Dump the Pump. Save Money. Ride Transit.”|
