The Cerro Gordo County Supervisors met Tuesday morning and tabled for one week a project at the North Iowa Fairgrounds involving HVAC improvements while the project cost is brought in line.|The Cerro Gordo County Supervisors met Tuesday morning and tabled for one week a project at the NorthIowa Fairgrounds involving HVAC improvements while the project cost is brought in line.

Ed Weininger, Mason City architect involved with the project, told the supervisors that bids for the project were “substantially over” their cost estimates. He said the project would be scaled back in some areas, simplified, and other details given to the contractors doing the work would be clarified in order to bring costs in line. His estimate for the project cost was $161,000, and the lowest bid was 207,000 from Mechanical Air Systems. Weininger says the costs should be in-line within the next day or two. The supervisors will cosnider the project at next week’s meeting.

In other business, the supervisors:

– Moved to close the southwest entrance to the courthouse due to safety concerns. “It’s a sign of the times,” Supervisor Phil Dougherty said.

– Reclassified a portion of Heather Avenue to a level “C” road, which will be gated and locked, due to off-roaders and dumping.

– OK’d the County Attorney’s Office to move to the former Sheriff’s office

– Set wages and salaries for fiscal year 2011-2012

– OK’d more cooperation with other Iowa counties on the Precinct Atlas software, which was also recognized for winning to awards, one of which from the National Association of Counties
