Band Shell to get renovation work this summer

The historic band shell in East Park will get an exterior renovation this summer. The project will cost $57,000, funded by a $50,000 grant, city general funds and private donations.| The historic band shell in East Park will get an exterior renovation this summer.

The renovation works includes restoring the structure to its original design, replacing the asphalt shingle roof, repairing the concrete shell, replacing exterior power and lighting, replacing damaged/deteriorated wood siding and other associated work, according to a city hall memo.

The work will be done by Larson Contracting. The city council awarded the project to Larson at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

The project will cost $57,000, funded by a $50,000 grant, city general funds and private donations.

The restoration is the culmination of efforts by Mason City resident Janice Easley to first of all save the band shell from demolition and secondly restore it. Easley lobbied the council for years to save and restore the band shell. Funds she raised will go toward this project.
