Site for portable classrooms at High School being prepared

The site at the Mason City High School campus where portable classrooms will sit is being prepared now.

Incoming eighth graders will be attending classes in the portable classrooms. Those students will also attend some classes and activities in the High School.

The portable classrooms are needed due to the closure of John Adams Middle School, which is being renovated for at least the next calendar year.

The classrooms were described earlier this Spring as an “annex facility” and “very nice” with new carpeting and “comfortable.” The cost of the two buildings would be between $800,000 and $1 million. “It’ll be a good place for our kids to be,” School Superintendent Anita Micich said.

There will be a “connector” between the to building for students to walk between the buildings.

Eighth graders will use the two buildings next school year, and then as the High School is under renovation the following year, high schooler students would utilize the buildings.
