Free MacNider Arts Festival this Saturday

MASON CITY, Iowa ó From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 11, North Iowa residents and visitors are invited to attend the 2011 MacNider Arts Festival at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City. This family friendly, one-day affair is free to attend.

The Art Safari! themed event is full of activities for all ages:
ï 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ñ Free or low-cost kids’ activities, including paper lions, paper tube binoculars, photo frames, sticker safari maps, and more, are open.
ï 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ñ The Art Market is open. Visitors can purchase original art, such as pottery, photography, jewelry, and more from over 30 local artists.
ï 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. ñ Soccer with the Mason City Recreation Department on the lawn.
ï 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. (or until supplies are gone) ñ FREE pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Cerro Gordo County Association of Independent Insurance Agents.
ï 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. ñ Live music from Paul Christian.
ï 11:00 a.m. ñ Story time with the Mason City Public Library on the lawn.
ï 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ñ Live music from Sara Kay.
ï 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. ñ Live music from the Sugar Daddys Jazz Band.
ï 2:00 p.m. ñ Story time with the Mason City Public Library on the lawn
ï 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. ñ Live music from Central Standard Time.
ï 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. ñ Live music from the Mason City Municipal Band.

Food and a variety of merchandise are for sale throughout the day. The Mason City Youth Center’s bouncy house will be open all day for children to use for a small fee. Kalimbaman will also be strolling the grounds and performing on Saturday.

Volunteers are still needed to help with this annual community event. If you are interested in helping for an hour or two ñ or even all day ñ contact Michelle at 641-420-1451. It is a great opportunity to earn volunteer hours for organizations and meet new people.

Children and parents gather to make paper tube sand castles at the 2010 MacNider Arts Festival. This Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Art Safari! will take place at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City. Admission is free, and live music, kids’ activities, and an Art Market are scheduled for the day.
