Many citizens were concerned about the impact on their property taxes should the project go forward, while other people fear that Mason City will continue to lose population without amenities of this nature.

Mayor Eric Bookmeyer noted that the project is simply in its pre-planning stages, and no location or costs are known at this time. He also noted that the matter would be brought to a public vote if an amount greater than $700,000 in general obligation bonds would be needed to move the project forward should it get that far.

City Administrator Brent Trout noted that at this forum it was important not to tally how many in favor of the project and how many against, but to listen closely to what people had to say and their concerns.
