Lane restrictions on U.S. 218 near Janesville continue through mid-July

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa ñ June 3, 2011 ñ Road construction work near Janesville on U.S. 218 is causing traffic to be restricted to one lane in both the north- and southbound lanes according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) New Hampton construction office.

Access to Black Hawk County Road C-57 from U.S. 218 on the east side of the intersection is closed as well as through the median and will remain closed for about five weeks, weather permitting. Affected motorists will be asked to follow the marked detour routes. The entire project will be completed by mid-July.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.|
