The 2011 legislative session is now a week past the expected adjournment date.
In the Senate, we’ve approved many good initiatives to create jobs, support student achievement and help Iowans recover from the national recession.
In the end, Iowa’s Democratic Senate, Republican House and Republican Governor must come to agreement. We’re all working to make Iowa a better place to live, work and raise a familyóbut we don’t always have the same ideas for how to reach that goal. That’s why we’re still meeting, talking and looking for common ground.
Through these talks, I’m hopeful that we can come to agreement on the state budget, funding for our local schools, commercial property tax relief and job creation efforts. While we may not get everything we want in a divided Legislature, I am optimistic that we will accomplish good things for Iowans.
In these final days of session, I encourage you to contact your legislators and the Governor, and let us know YOUR priorities. After all, we work for you.
