Three men who illegally re-entered the United States from Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala pled guilty on April 18, 2011, in federal court in Sioux City.
Feliciano Hernandez-Badillo, age 39, from Mexico; Oscar Ramos-Rodriguez, age 30, from Honduras; and Edgar Serech-Figueroa, age 27, from Guatemala, were each convicted of one count of illegal re-entry.
At the plea hearings, the men admitted they were illegal aliens present in the United States without permission.
Hernandez-Badillo had been previously removed from the United States on June 25, 2004. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Clay County, Iowa, jail on December 21, 2010, while he was incarcerated for forgery.
Ramos-Rodriguez been previously removed from the United States on November 17, 2005. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Wright County, Iowa, jail on February 11, 2011, while he was incarcerated for various traffic offenses.
Serech-Figueroa had been previously removed from the United States on February 27, 2009. He was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations in the Wright County, Iowa, jail on February 14, 2011, while he was incarcerated for domestic assault.
Sentencings before United States District Court Judge Mark W. Bennett will be set after presentence reports are prepared. The three men remain in custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. They face up to 2 years’ imprisonment, a fine of $250,000, a $100 special assessment, and up to 1 year of supervised release.
The cases are being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Fletcher and were investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
