Cargill wants to expand Mason City plant

Cargill Kitchen Solutions in Mason City, formerly Sunny Fresh Foods, has approached Mason City about incentives for expanding their plant.

A new investment requirement is outlined in the agreement proposal the city is offering Cargill. Cargill will make a total new investment of $12.55 million in building improvements, machinery and equipment. This is in addition to the $3 million cost for the expansion of the existing facility.

Cargill would also be required to create 20 new jobs, maintained throughout the life of the agreement.

Cargill would also get other financial incentives. A 10-year 100% TIF rebate or equivalent on new value created by the Cargill Kitchen Solutions expansion project not to exceed a total cumulative rebate or incentive on the new value of more than $700,000.

The City Council will vote on the agreement Tuesday night.

According to its website, Cargill is a leading marketer of high value, further-processed egg products in the United States.|
