More Than $140,000 to Airports in Fairfield and Mason City

WASHINGTON ñ Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded grants totaling $146,915 to airports in Fairfield and Mason City. |WASHINGTON ñ Senator Chuck Grassley today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded grants totaling $146,915 to airports in Fairfield and Mason City.

“This funding is intended to increase the safety and efficiency of these airports,” Grassley said.

The funds will be distributed as follows:

ï Fairfield Municipal Airport will receive $31,050 for runway rehabilitation
ï Mason City Municipal Airport will receive $115,865 for apron rehabilitation.

Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals and state agencies apply for competitive grants from the federal government. The funding is then awarded based on each local organization or individual’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal entity.
