In a letter to the Vision Iowa Board in Des Moines, Mason City had requested a time extension to complete its downtown streetscape project. The streetscape project has encountered numerous snags and delays as workers dug up North Federal Avenue in Mason City. The project was supposed to be completed by June 30, 2011.

The meeting turned out better than expected for Mason City, and the streetscape project finally had a break go its way, as it was granted a time extension for the entire project, not just the city’s portion.

“I think the meeting turned out quite well for Mason City,” said Alaina Santizo, Vision Iowa/CAT Program Manager. “To be consistent, the board set the completion date for the entire project.”

The new date for completion for the entire project in downtown Mason City, including the Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel, is October 31, 2011.

“The city provided a written update on the progress of its project,” Santizo said. “This was the only time extension they have asked for so far, and we understand the delays they have encountered. Most of the work was done underground and there were many unknowns there. A few extra months was not hard to come by for this project.”
