NIACC to Offer Summer First Volleyball League for High School Students

High school volleyball programs are invited to participate in the first NIACC Summer Volleyball League to be held from June 1 through July 20 on Wednesday mornings. Organizers hope to make this an annual event.

Playing times will be from 8:30 to 10:45 in the NIACC Gym. Team rosters are due by May 18 and players must be a high school student during the 2011-2012 school year.

“We are excited to offer this chance for high school volleyball players,” said Chris Brandt, NIACC Volleyball coach. “We wanted to offer more opportunities for our local athletes to play in the off-season and this is a perfect fit.” Teams will play five scheduled dates and the number of participating teams will determine whether the playing format will be a one-hour or two-hour length.

A minimum of six players and a coach or adult to be present are required per team. Each team will play five weeks during the league and high school volleyball rules will apply. Teams will also be assigned duties for officiating which will include two line judges, a scorekeeper, and one official to initiate serve and the end of play.

Team rosters are due by May 18, 2011 and will be accepted in the order they arrive. Registration fee is $20 per player. If a player would like a t-shirt, the registration fee is $30.
