Meeting to discuss dumpster regulations set by city

City of Mason City
PLANNING and ZONING COMMISSION
to discuss regulations related to dumpsters.

The public is invited to a meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission to discuss regulations found in the newly implemented Zoning Ordinance that require all existing refuse and refuse handling equipment, including but not limited to garbage cans and dumpsters, to be stored within buildings or be screened from eye-level view (except for 1- or 2-unit residences) by December 31, 2011. The regulations are meant to promote both public health and city beautification.

After an introduction by staff and a presentation of issues and concerns by Waste Management, the public will be invited to make comments and recommendations to the Commission regarding any proposed changes to the regulations. Any changes to the Zoning Ordinance will require Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing and recommendation to the City Council. The City Council would then hold a public hearing followed, typically, by discussion at 2 additional City Council meetings before any zoning ordinance amendment would be adopted.

When: Tuesday, April 12, 2011
7:00 p.m.
Where: 2nd Floor Conference Room, City Hall,
10 First Street NW, Mason City, Iowa
