Public, parents, preschoolers are welcome to attend
Senator Amanda Ragan and Representative Sharon Steckman of Mason City are sponsoring a demonstration of quality preschool on Saturday, April 2. Dedicated preschool teachers will demonstrate some of the excellent education opportunities available to Iowa’s preschoolers by leading the students in classroom activities. The showcased activities will display a small example of the education offered to the 60% of Iowa students which attend state supported preschools across the Iowa. Teachers and leaders of the Mason City public school district’s preschool program will be on hand to answer questions.
A public forum held in January at the state capitol found that many middle class families and community leaders rely on state-sponsored preschool programs in their community. Further, research has found that quality preschool produces some of the best returns from state investments in our children and future workforce. Children in quality learning environments are less likely to drop out of school, less likely to repeat a grade, less likely to need special education, and less likely to get into trouble with the law. All of Iowa’s hard working families deserve this opportunity for their children.
The event will take place in the Mason City Room, at the Mason City Library. Beginning at 10 AM, a preschool teacher will lead children in short activities typical of those occurring in Iowa’s state supported preschools. Following the demonstration, legislators will lead a brief discussion with teachers, parents and citizens.
