The Mason City School Board approved plans for a ten classroom building and a six classroom building that would serve eighth graders next year and high schoolers the following year. Above: location where portable classrooms will be set.|The Mason City School Board unanimously approved plans for a ten classroom building and a six classroom building that would serve eighth graders next year and high schoolers the following year. The buildings are temporary, portable and would be ready by June.

Superintendent Anita Micich described the classrooms, their location on the Mason City High School campus, and how traffic flow would work during the next two years that the classrooms would serve students.

The classrooms were described as an “annex facility” and “very nice” with new carpeting and “comfortable.” The cost of the two buildings would be between $800,000 and $1 million. “It’ll be a good place for our kids to be,” Micich said.

Blueprints were held up during the presentation, showing the location of the buildings as directly south of Mohawk Stadium. (See photo, right.)

There will be a “connector” between the to building for students to walk between the buildings.

Eighth graders will use the two buildings next school year, and then as the High School is under renovation the following year, high schooler students would utilize the buildings.

It was stressed that students would be able to get safely from the temporary buildings into the High School for lunch or other activities that can’t be done in the temp. buildings. Describing getting students from the temp. buildings to the High School, Micich said “We’ll give everybody a nice red and black umbrella. Because if you go anywhere in San Francisco when it’s raining everyday that you’re there, everybody’s got an umbrella.”
