HAWKEYES FALL TO GONZAGA

Iowa outhit Gonzaga, 12-11. Three Hawkeyes enjoyed multi-hit games. Senior Tyson Blaser tallied a season-high four hits (4-for-5). Senior Zach McCool went 3-for-5 and sophomore Andrew Host went 2-for-4.

Gonzaga (10-7) added one run in the bottom of the first and four in the second off Iowa starter Ricky Sandquist. The Bulldogs added two more in the third to grab an early 7-0 advantage.

The Hawkeyes (7-10) added a run in the eighth, making the score 7-1. Iowa tallied another run in the ninth off a Kurt Lee RBI single to left, trimming the lead to 7-2. The Hawkeyes were unable to continue their rally in the final frame, falling 7-2.

Tyler Olson picked up his second win for the Bulldogs, giving up no runs on eight hits in seven innings.

Sandquist suffered the loss. The sophomore allowed five runs on five hits in two innings.

Iowa returns to Iowa City for its home opener Friday. The Hawkeyes host Western Illinois at 6:35 p.m. at Duane Banks Field.
