WASHINGTON ñ Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) voiced his support for the pro-growth, jobs-focused agenda outlined by Senate Democratic leaders today, which includes investments in education and workforce development. As Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, Harkin will be responsible for advancing two key components of the Democrats’ “Winning the Future” agenda ñ the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
“America’s success in the future will depend largely on how well we prepare our workforce for the jobs of the future. That starts in our nation’s schools. We must fix the No Child Left Behind law to ensure that all students graduate from high school prepared for college and a career in the 21st century global economy. To attract employers and good-paying jobs to America, we must also ensure that job seekers have access to training opportunities and skills development that prepare them for employment and advancement in the workforce. I look forward to working with my fellow Democrats and our colleagues across the aisle to advance these long-term investments in America’s success.”
