Park Watch Training to Begin on March 23, 2011

Individuals interested in a volunteer Parks Ambassador position assigned to the City’s Park Watch program are encouraged to apply. Weekend and Weekday patrol shifts are available. The next training session is scheduled for March 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Park Watch volunteers have been assisting law enforcement officers by patrolling designated city parks and have been responsible for helping to reduce acts of vandalism in Mason City since 2006. They are trained to recognize suspicious activity and to effectively report it to law enforcement.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, possess motor vehicle transportation and have a valid driver’s license. The training session, which is delivered by staff from the Mason City Police Department, is required prior to patrol assignment and those chosen to participate must first pass a local background check.

To learn more about the program or to request an application, contact the Volunteer Program office at 421-3372 or email:mzishka@masoncity.net. The Parks Ambassador volunteer position description can be found on the Volunteer Program page on the City’s website at www.masoncity.net under the Your Government tab)

Interested citizens are encouraged to apply early.|
