According to website traffic tracking software installed on computers that serve NorthIowaToday.com web pages to the public, the visitor traffic to NorthIowaToday.com was a fairly robust 3740 visits and 12,306 page views in October 2010, the first full month the website was in operation.
As of January 16, 2011, traffic to NorthIowaToday.com has risen considerably. So far in January, traffic has climbed to 4830 visits and 12,323 page views, already exceeding the totals from October.
According to Matt Marquardt, Publisher of NorthIowaToday.com, more traffic is expected. “I expect the website traffic to continue to grow, especially as more and more content is added to the site. We are continuing to refine our processes. Our readers can expect big changes and some surprises along the way as we evolve.”
NorthIowaToday.com is based on citizen journalism and social media like Facebook. “We are seeing more and more participation from the public, which is fantastic. This trend will continue. As it continues, more people will choose NorthIowaToday.com as their favorite news source, I predict,” Marquardt said.
The Facebook page for NorthIowaToday.com has now acquired a total of 844 “likes” (followers) since mid-September of 2010. According to the “post insights” provided by Facebook, many of the status updates posted to NorthIowaToday.com’s “wall” receive between 1,000 and 2,000 impressions. Post insights measure the number of times a post is displayed in other Facebook users’ news feeds, where they have an opportunity to read the status update and then click through to the story on NorthIowaToday.com.
