A hearing scheduled for Friday at the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse regarding a petition brought forward by the Mason City Human Rights Commission (MCHRC) against the owner and manager of Gracious Estates mobile home park in Mason City was continued until March 1.
NorthIowaToday.com contacted Mason City Human Rights Direcor Lionel Foster, and ha said his office is working with Ken Brenton, the owner of Gracious Estates, to “correct deficiencies” at the mobile home community. “We’re working with the owner now,” he said.
“We want his water billing to mimic the City’s water billing process,” he said.
Meanwhile, all evictions from the park are supposed to halt until the hearing, and water bills to tenants should only be for $30.00.
One resident who was named in the petition and was served eviction papers the very same day the petition was introduced to the court, was not evicted. “They pulled the eviction of Gemini (Joyce),” said Foster. “Yet, we do not want to interfere with evictions that have a good reason.”
NorthIowaToday.com will continue to follow this developing story.
