2nd annual Roller Derby a lot of fun for participants

Round 1 of the 2nd annual North Iowa Bicycle Underground (NIBU) Roller Derby was held at Lorado’s on Wednesday night.

The overall winner for the evening was Ruben Weaver, who battled local track star Coty Thompson in the final.

Roller derby is indoor bike roller racing. No special skills are needed and all levels of fitness and age can participate. It’s fun to watch and a great indoor spectator sport. Races are 500 meters and last 25 to 30 seconds. Members of NIBU and the Mason City biking community contribute to make this winter event possible. A tip jar and donations are accepted and all monies raised go to future NIBU events.

Prizes and awards for 1st 2nd and 3rd place based on a race point system Will be handed out at the end of the season.

The next event will be February 9th at 7 PM at Lorado’s.
