“Stay out of my inbox!” Council locks inboxes at City Hall

At the request of one City Council member, locks were installed on the inboxes for City Council members at City Hall.| At the request of one City Council member, locks were installed on the inboxes for City Council members at City Hall. One Council member, Janet Solberg, had complained to City Administrator Brent Trout and other Council members about people going through her inbox and requested that covers with locks be installed over the inboxes to protect the papers or other materials in the inboxes.

However, not all Council members agreed with the move.

“I got the crappy door with the big knot in it. That’s hilarious, I love it,” said Councilman Max Weaver. It’s public information as far as I’m concerned, so anyone can have the information that’s in our inboxes.”

Weaver has told NorthIowaToday.com that Globe Gazette staff routinely enter City Hall through a back door and rifle through the Council’s inboxes.

Councilman Jeff Marsters told NorthIowaToday.com “I demanded mine be removed. I already had told the city administrator I wanted no part of a locked mailbox. It’s all about one paranoid council person. In 7 years myself, I have never had an issue.”

Councilman Don Nelson told NorthIowaToday.com “Jeff, Myself and Max already requested the doors come off our boxes. It’s just ridiculous. It’s the public’s inbox. I’m just a custodian of it.”
