City Council tries to get a grip on Streetscape project, OK’s asphalt sidewalks

Mason City City Council and Mayor struggle to get information and a grasp on the hold-ups dogging the Streetscape project in downtown Mason City. Sidewalk funds were OK’d. Video included.|The Mason City City Council met in a special meeting at City Hall Wednesday evening to clean up its mess left over from Tuesday night, where no one took action on a change order that would have OK’d un-budgeted spending of over $18,000 for asphalt sidewalks along North Federal Avenue.

Mayor Eric Bookmeyer introduced the motion right away but that led to lengthy discussions between City Engineer Mark Rahm and some Council members. There was at least one tense exchange between Mayor Bookmeyer and Max Weaver about rumors that the Mayor had told private citizens he was against the Streetscape project. Bookmeyer made it clear he was in favor of the project.

City Engineer Mark Rahm told an inquisitive Council that the Streetscape project has been held up by unknown factors uncovered underground and also from trying to work around the Park Inn Hotel project which is happening at the same time.
