(Mason City) – The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health is pleased to announce they have received the distinction as a certified Blue Zones™ organization. This honor recognizes the Health Department’s strong commitment to employee health as evident by their Employee Wellness Program. In operation since 2010, the Employee Wellness Program, coordinated by the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health, has been available to all county departments, but major advancements in the Health Department have earned them the distinction of a Blue Zones™ organization. To celebrate this recognition, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM located at the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health (Mohawk Square, third floor).
The Health Department employees benefit from numerous well-being initiatives, including health screenings, lifestyle management programs, on-site fitness facilities, health education and policies supporting healthy behaviors.
“It has been a privilege to watch our wellness program grow from simple activities into a comprehensive program offering employees a variety of tools to keep not only themselves healthy, but their families as well,” said Kelli Huinker, Health Promotion Service Manager, Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health. “We are honored to be recognized as one of the first Blue Zones organizations in Mason City’s quest to become a certified Blue Zones community and thank our County and Health Department management for supporting health in the workplace.”
The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health also outsources several wellness services to local worksites in efforts to expand the benefits associated with employee wellness programs and practices.
