Mason City man with violent history arrested on warrant, then charged for drug possession

MASON CITY – Mason City police arrested a man at an apartment house on a valid arrest warrant and then charged him with possession of a controlled substance.

Michael Randal Olson, 31, was picked up at 410 North Washington Avenue on Thursday morning at about 8:26 AM and taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail and booked at 9:18 AM. Police said in a report that “the subject was arrested for the warrant and was also charged for possession of a controlled substance.”

Olson remained in jail Saturday waiting to see a judge.

Olson has a violent past that includes a conviction for assault causing injury on Mason City police in 2003.  Records show that some 9 years later, Olson still owes the court $993.75 in that case.

Olson also has 2 counts of child endangerment charges pending against him from a September 2012 incident, brought by the Mason City Police Department.  He faces an arraignment in that case on November 19th.

Among numerous other drug and traffic violations, most lately from July of 2012 where Olson was convicted of felony possession of a controlled substance for at least the third time (and still owes the court $1346.40 in that case), Olson is also a convicted thief.  He was charged with felony forgery in 2002 but Judge Carlynn Grupp allowed Olson to plead to 5th degree theft.  Olson still owes the court $586.25 in that case.
