Police investigate alleged assault of trucker on Interstate 35

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Cerro Gordo county law enforcement is investigating an alleged assault of a trucker on Interstate 35 early Tuesday morning.

On April 24th, 2018 at 1:20 AM, deputies from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office were dispatched to a medical call on Interstate 35 at the 180 Mile Marker South Bound. Dispatch advised Deputies while en route that the semi truck driver, Steven R. Butts, 51 of Utah had been assaulted by two unknown males. Butts advised that two males, approximately 20 years of age were driving an older style white Chevrolet Suburban, approximately 1987 with no license plates when they flashed their lights at Butts and motioned for him to pull over. Once Butts pulled over the subjects advised him to check the back of his semi. Once Butts was at the back of his semi he was approached by one of the males with a knife and told him they were going to take his truck. Butts defended himself before the second subject then approached Butts and hit him in the abdomen. Both males returned to their vehicle and fled the scene without any further incident.

Butts was checked out and signed off with Mason City Fire. Deputies were unable to locate the vehicle. If anyone has any information about this incident please contact the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriffss Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Mason City Fire Department, Meservey EMT’s and Thornton EMT’s.
