NIACC track athletes win events

MOUNT VERNON – NIACC’s Deionte Ganzy won two events at the Cornell College Invitational on Thursday.

Ganzy won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.15 seconds and also won the 200 in 22.42 to help lead the Trojans to a fourth-place finish with 69 points.

Dubuque was the men’s team champion with 202 points. Wartburg was second with 164 points and Loras was third with 103 points.

Ganzy also ran a leg on the Trojans’ 4×100-meter relay team that placed second in 42.91. Also running for the Trojans were Timothi McMaster, Prince Boduo and Kalen Eastman.

The Trojans placed second in the 4×400 in 3:36.28 running Kyle Younker, Scott Hengesteg, Ethan Klasi and Boduo.

Also for the Trojans, Alec Hayes was third in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 3 1/2 inches and Grant Dieken was fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:47.39).

In the 100, McMaster was sixth (11.62).

In the 200, Jevonte Ganzy was sixth (23.35) and Younker was seventh (23.39).

In the 400, Boduo was sixth (52.85) and Younker was seventh (52.87).

In the 110 hurdles, Brody Goos placed seventh in 16.28.

NIACC returns to action April 13-14 at the Jim Duncan Invitational on the Drake University campus in Des Moines.

Meanwhile, NIACC’s Jaylynn Scrivner won the 100-meter dash in a time of 13.18 seconds at the Cornell College Invitational on Thursday.

Scrivner also placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:06.92) to help lead the Lady Trojans to a fifth-place finish in the team standings with 54 points. Wartburg College was the women’s team champion with 163.5 points and Dubuque was second with 149 points.

Also for the Lady Trojans, Dashawan Wyatt was second in the 100 (13.42) and fifth in the 200 (27.54).

NIACC’s 4×100-meter relay team placed second on 51.20 running Wyatt, Erin Schwarzkopf, Elizabeth Mennen and Scrivner.

The Lady Trojans also placed second in the 4×400 (4:25.53) running Anne Marie Morris, Keisha Gonzague, Amy Fullerton and Ally Trager.

In the 100, Trager was fifth (14.19) and Morris was sixth (14.23).
