Iowa man beats his victim twice before leaping from window to evade police

MANCHESTER, IOWA – An Iowa man beat his female victim twice before police could catch up to him in a second-story apartment, leading him to leap from a window before he was caught and taken to jail.

On March 31, 2018, the Manchester Police Department took a report of a fight taking place at 1501 North Franklin Street. When officers arrived on the scene they found a female subject that appeared to be the victim of an assault. The victim was uncooperative but witnesses stated the victim had been choked and assaulted by her boyfriend. The suspect had fled the scene and officers were unable to locate him.

On April 2, 2018, the Manchester Police Department received information a subject whom had a valid warrant for his arrest was located at 1501 North Franklin Street. The subject was the same individual who was the suspect in the assault 3 days prior. Officers were unable to locate the subject but did observe signs of another altercation that had taken place. Initially, the victim was uncooperative but later the victim did give a statement on what took place. The victim alleged she was assaulted by the same suspect and he damaged a door, wall, and television.

On April 3, 2018, at 2:40 AM, the Manchester Police Department received more information the suspect was in an apartment at 116 Ludland Drive. Officers from the Manchester Police Department and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office staged in the area. The suspect jumped out of a second story window when officers announced their presence. Officers pursued the suspect and he was taken into custody. Officer David Trumblee sustained an injury to his knee during the foot pursuit after stepping into a hole in the ground.

Police arrested 23-year-old Zachary Dear Jimerson of Manchester on the following charges:

– Domestic Assault (impeding air flow) – Class D Felony
– 2 counts Violation of a No Contact Order – Serious Misdemeanors
– Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree – Aggravated Misdemeanor
– Criminal Mischief 4th Degree – Serious Misdemeanor
– Interference with Official Acts – Serious Misdemeanor
– Assault Causing Bodily Injury – Serious Misdemeanor
