NIACC softball team splits with MCC

MARSHALLTOWN – The NIACC softball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Marshalltown Community College Thursday.

MCC won the first game 13-5 and NIACC took the second game 16-4 in six innings.

In the first game, MCC’s Katelyn Cantu scattered 10 hits and allowed five runs (three earned) to gain the win. The Tigers scored in five of their six at-bats, including a five-run second inning and a four-run fourth inning.

NIACC scored four runs in the second inning and pushed across a single run in the third frame.

In the second game, NIACC scored it five of its six at-bats, including four runs in the third inning, four runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning.

The 16 runs in the second game is the ninth time this season that the Lady Trojans have scored at least 10 runs.

NIACC (9-13 overall) returns to action Tuesday at home against MCC. The first game is slated to start at 1 p.m.
