Knife attack drives Iowa man to attempt to jump off bridge

MANCHESTER, IOWA – An alleged knife attack and the sorrow that followed drove an Iowa husband to the point of attempting to jump off a bridge, only to be thwarted by cops.

The incident unfolded on March 20, 2018 in Manchester, Iowa. Police took a report of a subject on the West Marion Street bridge. The caller advised that a male subject was preparing to jump off the bridge. A Delaware County Deputy was the first to arrive on the scene. The subject advised law enforcement he wanted to jump off the bridge because he accidently stabbed his wife with a knife. Manchester officers went to 828 East Howard Steet to check on the welfare of the subject’s wife. When they arrived, they spoke to the subject’s wife and discovered there was an argument that escalated to a physical attack by the male subject on the bridge. Police stated he “had become angry and lunged at male subject with a kitchen knife.”

A witness to the incident intervened and stopped the attack, according to police.

As a result, police arrested 24-year-old Austin Michael Peterson of Manchester on a charge of felony D Going Armed with Intent. He soon bonded out of the Delaware county jail.
