Three NIACC women earn first-team all-region honors

MASON CITY – Three NIACC women’s basketball players have been selected to the all-NJCAA Region XI first-team.

NIACC’s sophomore Taylor Laabs, freshman Mikayla Homola and sophomore UU Longs all earned first-team honors. Laabs was also a first-team selection as a freshman and Longs was a second-team choice as a freshman.
it is the fifth straight season that the Lady Trojans have had at least two first-team all-region selections.

Laabs is the first two-time first-team all-region selection since Chelsey Jacox and Lateeka Thompson both earned first-team all-region honors in 2013 and 2014.

Also for the Lady Trojans, who were 26-7 and advanced to the regional title game for the fifth straight season, sophomore Khalilah Holloway was a second-team selection and freshman Cici Kieger was selected to the third-team. Holloway was a third-team pick as a freshman.
Laabs averaged 14.8 points per game with 82 3-point goals. She also had 98 assists and 66 steals.

Homola led the Lady Trojans in scoring at 15.1 points per game. She also had 69 3-point goals, 44 steals and 41 assists.

Longs averaged 11.5 points per game with 43 3-point goals. Longs led the Lady Trojans with 115 assists and 72 steals.

Holloway led the NIACC women with 236 rebounds. She averaged 6.4 points per game with 58 steals.

Kieger averaged 7.3 points per game with 49 3-point goals. She grabbed 103 rebounds and dished out 66 assists.
