MASON CITY – A man recently put on probation for burglary and avoided a 10-year prison term has been given a jail term and a fine for attacking a police officer at Mercy Hospital.
Mason City police were dispatched to Mercy Hospital, 1000 4th Street SW, at 12:38 PM Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2018 on a report of a man assaulting a police officer. As a result, 37-year-old Daniel Ray Tyree was arrested on a charge of assault on persons of certain occupations.
Tyree pled guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 100 days in jail and must pay $661.75 in fines and court fees.
Tyree, who has been arrested for criminal mischief and domestic assault in the past, was sentenced in January of this year in a burglary case. He pled guilty to second-degree burglary and was given a suspended 10-year prison term, 4 years of probation, and 180 days in the Beje Clark criminal warehouse. Records show that it took the Department of Corrections virtually no time to file a probation violation report the same day as he allegedly assaulted the police officer. He will face a hearing gin that matter on March 19.
