IOWA FALLS – Candidates are emerging to replace disgraced Senator Bill Dix, who resigned this week after a video showed him getting cozy with a lobbyist.
Iowa’s 25th Senate district is now without a Senator due to a revolting scandal exposing Bill Dix in a bar smooching a lobbyist. A special election will be set. Democrats announced this week that “things are moving fast” and that Tracy Freese is their candidate to fill the vacancy.
Freese says on her website that she offers “fresh ideas” and that “careless leadership has cost Iowans enough. I support progressive change and I plan to fight for it.”
Hardin county democrats say former Republican legislator Annette Sweeney will be the likely opponent for Freese – although no formal announcement appears to have been made so far.
Senate district 25 stretches across portions of Story, Hardin, Grundy and Butler counties.
