OBIT: Wilbur Stewart, 93, of Charles City

Wilbur Stewart, 93, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Wilbur Stewart will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Reverend Gary Mayer celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Floyd, Iowa.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 with a Scripture Service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the funeral Mass at the church on Monday.

Wilbur Eugene Stewart, the son of Mervyn and Bessie (Hennick) Stewart, was born July 2, 1924 in Floyd County, Iowa. Wilbur attended schools in Floyd and graduated from Floyd High School in 1945. On June 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Gabel at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Wilbur farmed for many years on their farm near Floyd. He also worked a short time for Rath of Waterloo and was part time at Curry Electric.

Wilbur was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lions Club in Floyd, Knights of Columbus in Charles City, an honorary 4-H Leader and coffee groups. He enjoyed playing cards, farming, fishing, electrical work, and carpentry.

Living family members include children: Roger (Wyona) Stewart of Floyd, Richard (Barbara) Stewart of Floyd, Barbara (Greg) Easterly of Charles City, Dennis (Nancy) Stewart of Hampton, Diane Stewart of Charles City, and Mary (Ron) Michael of Floyd; sisters: Mary Stansberry of Loveland, Colorado, June Leaman of Rudd, and Norma (Vernon) Wamsley of Arizona; brother, Gordon (Mabel) Stewart of Charles City; sister-in-law, Juanita Stewart of Charles City; brothers-in-law: Don Thorson of Charles City and Gerald Gabel of Mason City; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy Gabel Stewart; son, Bruce Stewart; sister, Ruby Thorson; and brothers: Truman Stewart and Don Stewart.
