MASON CITY – A man recently put on probation for burglary and avoided a 10-year prison term allegedly attacked a police officer at Mercy Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
Mason City police were dispatched to Mercy Hospital, 1000 4th Street SW, at 12:38 PM Wednesday afternoon on a report of a man assaulting a police officer. As a result, 37-year-old Daniel Ray Tyree was arrested on a charge of assault on persons of certain occupations. He was taken to the county jail, where he remains held at this time.
Tyree, who has been arrested for criminal mischief and domestic assault in the past, just this month was sentenced in a burglary case. He pled guilty to second-degree burglary and was given a suspended 10-year prison term, 4 years of probation, and 180 days in the Beje Clark criminal warehouse. Records show that it took the Department of Corrections virtually no time to file a probation violation report the same day as he allegedly assaulted the police officer.
