AMES – Police in Ames are actively investigating a drive-by shooting that took place Monday night.
At approximately 11:10 P.M. on Monday, December 11, officers responded to a report of a shooting that occurred at 504 Stanton Avenue in Ames. Upon officer arrival, they found a 36-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. Witnesses reported a dark colored sedan driving northbound on Stanton when shots were fired and the victim was struck while standing in her driveway. The victim was initially transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries before being transported to a Metro Hospital.
Police are still seeking clues and are asking the public to avoid the area, although they say this is not an “active shooter” situation.
