Iowa State to play no. 19 Memphis in AutoZone Liberty Bowl

AMES – The Iowa State football team is going bowling for the 13th time in school history by accepting an invitation to play in the 2017 AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tenn.

The Cyclones will face No. 19 Memphis (10-2, 7-1 AAC) on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 11:30 a.m. CT. The game will be televised by ABC.

Iowa State returns to a bowl game for the first time since 2012. The Cyclones finished the regular season with a 7-5 mark and a 5-4 record in Big 12 play, tying for fourth in the conference and matching its school record for wins against conference competition.

Iowa State was ranked in the AP Top-25 for three-straight weeks, marking its first appearance in the AP poll since 2005. Behind two victories over AP Top-5 teams (Oklahoma, TCU), the Cyclones also made their first-ever appearance in the College Football Rankings, earning a spot at No. 15 in the initial poll.

Iowa State is one of three teams nationally with a pair of wins over top-5 opponents, doubling its career win total against top-5 foes (Iowa State was 1-56-2 vs. AP Top-5 teams heading into the season).

Cyclone fans smashed all school attendance records during the fall, averaging 57,931 fans per game in six home contests.

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl was established in 1959. The Cyclones last played in the Liberty Bowl in 2012 vs. Tulsa. ISU also played Georgia Tech in the 1972 Liberty Bowl.

Ticket Information
Tickets for the 2017 Liberty Bowl cost $85-$95 each and sales begin Monday, Dec. 4 at 9 a.m. The athletics department has decided to offer ISU student tickets for $40 each and subsidize the price difference.
