NIACC women improve to 8-0 with 112-57 victory

MASON CITY – Still perfect.

The No. 9 NIACC women’s basketball team moved its record to 80 with a 112-57 victory over Lake Region State College Saturday night during the second day of the NIACC Thanksgiving Challenge in the NIACC gym.

The Lady Trojans are chasing the 12-0 start to the season by the 2013-14 Lady Trojan squad that placed third at the NJCAA Division II national tournament.

In Saturday’s win over Lake Region State College, the Lady Trojans connected on 22 3-point goals, which ties the school record for 3-point goals in a contest. The 2016-17 Lady Trojans made 22 3-point goals in a game against Little Priest Tribal College.

A total of 10 players connected on 3-point goals for NIACC on Saturday. Morgan Frank led the way with four 3-point goals.

Also making 3-pointers for NIACC were Selena Shady (3), Kelsie Willert (3), Taylor Laabs (2), Shayley Vesel (2), Lakin Joerger (2), Laker Ward (2), Tahya Campbell (2), UU Longs (1) and Adria Stewart (1).

Shady led the Lady Trojans with 15 points. Frank and Willert both scored 13 points, Campbell scored 11 points and Longs scored 10 points.

It is the third straight game and fifth out of the last six games that the NIACC women have scored at least 100 points in a game.

The NIACC women return to action Sunday at home against the Grand View Junior Varsity at 3 p.m. in the final day of the Thanksgiving Challenge.
