CHARLES CITY – The Floyd County Medical Center Foundation has created an endowment fund with the Floyd County Community Foundation. On Wednesday, November 15, Jim Moon, Board of Commissioners Chair, along with Rod Nordeng, hospital administrator, Commissioners Ron James and Paula Kingery, and CFO Ron Timpe delivered the establishing check to the Floyd County Community Foundation governing committee.
Floyd County Medical Center is a critical access hospital and rural health clinic providing healthcare services to the residents of the region. On January 17, 1965 the hospital opened on its current campus after a vote by Floyd County residents to transition and expand operations. Floyd County Medical Center does not receive direct tax support from Floyd County residents, while the majority of Iowa’s critical access hospitals do receive tax revenue.
Nordeng explained his reasoning behind starting the FCMC Foundation Fund. “This fund provides for future sustainability. By growing the fund, we are investing in the future of healthcare in Floyd County. We hope to be able to use the proceeds for capital projects, operations, and equipment.”

As Floyd County Medical Center Foundation is a permanent endowment fund with the Floyd County Community Foundation, donors to the fund can take advantage of a 25% state tax credit made available through the Endow Iowa program, in addition to normal federal deductions for charitable gifts. Gifts to the fund allow recommendations for grants to be made each year to support charitable causes that carry out the mission of the Community Foundation.
