cat walk. lol

Wow, after reading these comments you can sure tell that some of you do not understand how elections work.

General Motors has representatives in town looking us over for a location to build a new GM factory!

Hillery will fly in for a $200,000.00 paid speech on her way to Ft Levenworth to inspect her new apartment.

Sam Clovis will be trucked in to one of the new hog farms, to look at his new apartment.

75% 0f 30% of registered voters means about 4000 people out of 18,000 voted for it making it about 20% of the voters in mason city approved it —

Apple heard there is going to be a Skywalk built over to Music Man Square and are planning to build a new Cloud facility in Mason City. Jobs are already starting to pour in.

I hope the housing market in River City is ready to handle the influx of people.

There is going to be a huge building boom in the housing market. Contractors are already looking for lots to build on. Mason City is going to sky rocket now that we have this new hotel.

With this new convention center it would be a good place to have a playboy bunny reunion. That’ll bring in the revenue.

It’s a fold of skin. Get over it.

Poor heff. lol But the fact remains in our society that sex appeal is the number #1 driving force and rakes in billions of dollars every month.

75% approval of how many voter’s, no mention in this article on how many voted, the 75% that voted for this fantasy of the rich need to pay for it also, Government’s purpose is not in place for making laws to take citizens lively hood by force and create businesses, for starts they are to enforce reasonable laws, maintenance roads, utilities like water, garbage, not Tavistock Social Engineering, they have turned into a giant octopus meddling into and competing with private businesses using the citizens $ to boot to grow their failed Empire, what business owner is going to give someone $ to compete with their business, it’s like seeing a circus with bad clown actors, the writing is on the wall for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, what did Christ do to the sorcerers/vipers $ tables He overturned them, just like the South Bridge Mall, this fantasy endeavor of the rich will fail, and people who can’t afford the rich sticking them with their fantasy failure’s will end up paying for it, that is called “theft”, there are plenty of businesses who serve the public that have never gotten any kind of monies from tax payers and would not accept any, yet these people feel no shame they are spending other peoples $ against their will, How did Mason City really get it’s name must have been from the Free Masons, that is for another lesson.

It does not really matter how many people voted. It took a 60% Yes vote for this project to pass and it got 75% of the vote. I agree, it’s too bad that more people did not come out and vote but that’s The way our laws work.. no one is forced to go out and exercise their right to vote, it is a simple as that
Apparently people that wanted this project cared enough to go vote for it and the people that did not want this project didn’t Did not care enough to go vote again, it’s a simple as that
At any rate the project won by a very large margin so the people that cared enough to go out and vote got what they wanted. That is what’s great about our country, you can be passionate and go get the things you want or you can sit on your ass and complain because you didn’t get the things you want Either way it was 75% majority and they won so get over it.

Sounds like a nice premise, yet my view is they/the powers that shouldn’t be have no right to take peoples lively hood, if a person or persons want a hotel they go get a loan like everyone else, if a city wants a ice arena, they raise the $ with fund raisers and donations not by forcing people to pay for it, same with a museum, why would anyone think they can lay claim to someone’s life/lively hood/$ in my view this is wrong and I am right, it is not a matter of getting over it a lie can never be changed into truth, just as the truth can never be changed into a lie.

no-one is forcing you. this is the free world and you have the right to vote with your feet. i hope you wont but it is your right.

This is why Christ said it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven, the lust of $ and then the nerve of the rich taking $ from the poor to finance their fantasies is wrong.

Exactly, to both comments.

Did you know that since we are getting a sky to Music Man Square that Apple is building a new Cloud Facility in Mason City. This is really working and jobs are already coming to town.

Typical of the TYPE who is for it….nanana we won you lose.
Assholes supreme.

Sounds just like the Trump supporters.

there are shitbags in every camp

As long as my property out in Elmwood isnt taxed when the project tanks Im ok with the vote. LVS

I don’t think that the city would tax themselves.

what is it the Trump followers always say – we won, you lost. We are the winners, you are the losers. get over it.

Well of some comfort – YOU only got SCREWED half as bad as the Slaughter house deal – You won’t have to build more schools and learn to speak spanish or Syrian refugee mumbo jumbo.

There was no organized opposition to this. I am pretty sure Max Weaver got tired of carrying the burden of looking out for the folks. No body stepped up and put together an organized truth campaign to inform the citizens. Less than 7000 people voted so all of the people that did not vote have no reason to complain. I do blame the Globe and Mason City media for not trying to get more information out to the people in the neighborhoods. Not many take the paper anymore and NIT don’t reach the voters either. We got what we got.

Exactly.

“I do blame the Globe”

thats like blaming the wolf for not protecting the sheep better 😉

good post though. even though i think you nay-sayers are making the deal sound a little worse than it is. might not be the smartest thing we’ve done but we’ll be ok. a little but sore but hey – its no branstedt sponsored death palace.

AWESOME!!! Just what Mason City was missing! This is going to be great, an Ice arena and a new Hotel. Now we can finally have youth hockey and a minor league hockey team.

That’s not any fun. There must be someway to delay this or hamstring it through some bureaucracy… this is America!

The victory could possibly be short lived, time will tell. Low voter turn out, again.

36%.

must be the highest this town has ever seen in an election like this.

It probably is the highest this town has ever seen, but what is the 36%. There was around 7000 people who voted, and Mason City has around 19000 registered voters, which means 12000 didn’t vote, for whatever reason.

They just got a bigger dumpster out to throw the NO votes away if it was electronic voting they changed the NO to yes, in my view this has been planned for a long time these people running the show will get what they want it’s all coded and scripted, people voting is an illusion, my view.

To the YES voters “failure” matters evidence the South Bridge Mall, people don’t want to support your fantasies they have their own dreams to pursue, you are forcing people to pay for your fantasy that is called “slavery” and “theft”, you are claiming you own peoples lively hoods, do you understand that is wrong, your rich pay for your own junk.

ha ha, a hotel, museum and hockey rink are going to keep young people here, fine pay for it yourself 75%ers, the delusion won’t end as long as they can vote laws in to take peoples lively hood/$ a complete fraud, these people feel zero guilt, there are many houses in MC that need paint, fixing etc. yet they have to give their $ to the rich for their Fantasy Empire.

A free jar of vasoline be be mailed to local property owners by Turkey Day and thanks for the special Christmas gifts that the involved corporations and contractors will be sending us – Signed the Swamp and Friends.

This is fantastic! So glad to see that 75% of the vote was for this.
This is Proof that the vast majority of our citizens are for progress and want our city to prosper in the future!
For the 25% that voted no I hope that you can now join the rest of us and help make Mason City great again!
Thank You To all of the voters!

I understand your triumphant exhilaration, but don’t get confused. The vast majority of our citizens, did not vote.

Those that chose not to vote really have nothing to do with this election result, they must not have had an opinion on the project or they would have expressed that at the ballot box. The turnout was above the average for a city election.
So the fact is the vast majority of the citizens that cared and have an opinion on the project voted yes. That is all that really counts.
The result was a surprise to me, with all of the negativity on this site about the project I really did not think the measure would pass at all but not only did it pass it was not even close!! So yes Allen, any way you want to spin it the fact is the Vast Majority spoke loud and clear and they said YES!!

I understand your comment now, you meant to say that (the majority of the voters) voted yes, not the majority of our citizens. Thanks for the clarification.

Allen, The majority of our citizens choose not to have have a say on the issue. That pretty much means they are not factored in on the decision. All i am saying is the vote was 75% to 25% which is not a close election at all.

The rich need to pay for their fantasies, not force the poor and others who want nothing to do with their failure fantasies.

This is how America works, everyone that has the right to vote has the same opportunity to cast their ballet.
It is not the fault of the people that choose to engage in the process that 62% of the voting public elected to sit this one out. If the 62% were concerned about this project then they would have voted.

Did you know bthe word “America” means “land of the Plumed Serpents”, here are two sources, 1. http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/ciencia/historia_humanidad83.htm, 2. http://www.sacred-texts.com/atl/ssm/ssm10.htm.

Edit – bthe “the”

Do you know what democracy means? It means we take a vote and the majority of that vote wins. 75%-25% not even close!! The yes vote won, the No vote lost and that is how our democracy works.
You act like you were brought up spoiled and cried until you got your way but it does not work like that in the real world,
Crying does not work but democracy does.

your democracy calculations mean that 27% of registered voters or or 19% of the cities population said yes. Hardly a majority.

^^You are correct, it also means that 73% of the registered voters do not have a concern about the project or they would have voted.
The vast majority that did have a concern said yes.

It just means the Chamber of ConArtists and their cronies showed up, and regular people figured it a losing battle.

Mike, So according to your logic the 4000 people that voted yes are all Chamber Cronies that leaves 15,000 regular people to out vote them and you are saying the 15,000 regular people just gave up because it is a losing battle? 15,000 to 4,000 does not sound like a losing battle?

Congratulations to the YES vote! 75% seems a little high to me. The swamp is alive and well in River City!

The voter turn out for this type of election was actually above average. The average voter turn out in Mason City for city elections is 30.6% since 1999. Voter turn out was 37.6 for this election. As for the 12,000 voters that did not vote, not sure what to tell you there except is is very easy now days to cast a ballet so they must not be too concerned one way or the other about this project.

Another fine job of the Globe disclosing all the fine details to the people of m.c. and pushing their choking propaganda down their throats! Not one concern or fact listed in the votenomc.info site did they disclose. Even from Tennessee I can smell this steamy pile of crap!

Sure, blame it on the globe. Maybe if more than 1/3 of the citizens cared enough to vote your outcome would’ve been different

Well mason city is gonna finally be on the map! Lol! We’ll see!

Yaaah um it probably wouldn’t hurt to clean up the town iff you want people to come.

I’m wondering, these same people who vote(yes for anything) they are actually the problem, I mean nothing has ever worked out and they are the ones who vote. OUR VERY FIRST CLUE!!!!!!!!
At Least they are old Now And will be out of that pool before we can say Renaisance!

No surprise that it passed since there was such a campaign pushing it down our throats…The Globe, Mercy, Former mayors, Clear Lake…WTH? Mercy even had On-site voting. Wow, the fix was in! Someone will be getting rich while we are stuck with the increased taxes and holding the bag when it fails like the Mall did. Also, I hope the Hockey people will get busy raising their $2 million share!

Oh bullshit, all it tells people is that 15,000 people DID NOT VOTE.
Mandate my fat ass.
Can’t wait for our class reunions to be there now. There goes music man square.
I’m so sure big acts can’t wait to bring their tours here!!!!! Especially the lead out man who gets here first and sees old hwy 18 and federal for one area, just how manicured and clean this town is.
Turn back!
The audacity of anyone to think this is the ultimate, my gawd a mall , America’s favorite hang out couldn’t make it here!

You sound like you’re one of the 15,000 people that didn’t vote… And you sound like a really sore loser…… Ha ha

That’s 12,000.

Yawnnnnn. Could care less about this project, no part of it will benefit me but I just can’t wait for my taxes to go up!

I can’t wait to see the gigantic population growth numbers in the 2020 census . When it comes to multipurpose buildings and dated, vacant, enclosed retail spaces, the quote “if you build it they will come” Is all I can think of.

Thats too bad.

Boom. 75%. That’s a MANDATE!

I wish that 75% were the ones going to pay for it

I agree with your post, also in my view the 75% that voted yes for the fantasy of the rich need to pay for their desire, that will fail just as the garish mall fell.

The majority of the people that care enough to vote have spoken and the measure passed overwhelmingly, not even close!!
The 12,000 voters that did not vote must not care one way or the other or they would have taken the 5 min. it takes to cast a ballet.
So what do you do now, Join in with the vast majority on Mason City and make this project a success or sit back and wine about the outcome of the election? Your choice.

Or sit back and wait to flood this town with “I told you so’s”. Nothing has ever gone as planned or been finished even close to budget around these parts. But kudos, as more and more people leave town, there will be less and less people to have to share it with.

This is true Mike, Like I said to Mint, now that the votes are in and the project passed overwhelmingly you have a choice. Join the majority and help make the project the best it can be for our city or sit back and hope it fails. What ever decision one makes goes a long way to define one’s character

And I wish only the people who voted for Trump had to have him as their president…but that’s not how life works. Get over it.

Even better. How about the 75% in favor and the 25% against pay nothing additional in taxes and we fund the project with state incentive dollars and TIF financing. Oh wait. That’s exactly what’s happening.

Until the mall owner doesn’t pay his taxes. Oh wait, that is also happening. What happens when it isn’t valued as high as hoped, and he still doesn’t pay?

Not a risk. Property taxes aren’t dismissible. The city/County will still get all the tax money from a tax sale if the owner doesn’t pay.

There are several locals waiting for him to default so they can pick it up at a tax or bank sale. They wouldn’t do it if the renaissance vote hadn’t gone through. We’ll be rid of Kohan, or whatever his name really is, soon enough.

You do realize you don’t get the property in a tax sale, right? In a tax sale, you’re buying the property owners tax liability, not the property. Mr Kohan will be here for a while.

75% of less than 20% of the voting public is hardly a mandate! Just another pathetic example of what this town has become under lousy leadership. There’s is nothing new being built that we don’t already have, so I don’t see the attraction! No one will move here because we have another ice arena, another concert venue, or another hotel! People would move here for a decent paying job though!

When 3 out of every 4 voters says ‘yes’, its a MANDATE. This was a even bigger beating than that time Max Weaver ran for a council seat.

Nony, you do realize 38 percent of registered voters went to the polls, right?

Unless the tax deadbeat can pay with interest, which he can’t, ever, obviously, it will be over soon enough.
