NIACC men win junior college division at St. Ambrose Invite

BETTENDORF – The No. 12 NIACC men’s cross country team won the junior college division and placed second overall at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invitational Saturday at Crow Creek Park.

NIACC, which was led by individual champion Brian Jacques, totaled 85 points to claim the junior college division. Hawkeye CC was second in the junior college division with 139 points.

Olivet Nazarene was the overall champion with 77 points.

Jacques, a freshman, claimed his second straight individual title as he covered the 8-kilometer course in a personal best 25 minutes, 47 seconds, which ranks eighth on NIACC’s all-time 8K list. Jacques also won the Division II race at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 23.

Jacques’ previous personal best 8K time was 25:59 at Grinnell’s Les Duke Invitational on Sept. 9.

NIACC’s Blake Keller was fourth in 26:37 and Jacob Hansen was 13th in a personal-best 27:22 (tied for 33rd on school’s all-time list). Other counting scores for the Trojans were David Carter (33rd in 28:03) and Daniel Henniger (34th in 28:04).

Also for the Trojans, Samuel Dean was 51st (28:51), Tyson Stromer was 68th (29:30), Tyler Crawford was 70th (29:32), Grant Dieken was 71st (29:35), Canyon Kuhlmann was 75th (29:43), Hunter Filloon was 83rd (30:08) and Akahnni Delgado was 87th (30:25).

The NIACC women placed eighth overall and were third in the junior college division with 210 points. St. Ambrose was the overall women’s champion with 35 points and Iowa Western was the junior college champion with 117 points.

NIACC was led by Julia Dunlavey, who was 32nd in 21:30 on the 5K course. Next in line for the Lady Trojans was Amy Fullerton (44th in 22:02). Also counting for the Lady Trojans was Rebekah Larson (63rd in 23:15), Keisha Gonzague (66th in 23:25) and Ally Trager (76th in 24:00.).

Also for the NIACC women, Allison Steahr was 79th in 24:06 and Anna Frisch was 113th in 27:38.

NIACC returns to action Friday in the first Trent Smith Invitational on the NIACC campus.
