ALGONA, IOWA – A teen has been arrested in connection to a threat made against schools in Algona.
At 10:15 PM Tuesday, October 3rd, school administration in Algona was informed by local law enforcement of a threat against the Algona school system. Since the credibility of the threat could not be determined prior to school starting Wednesday, administration and law enforcement decided to cancel school for Wednesday, October 4th to ensure the safety of students. Police and school officials said they would continue to work together to determine the credibility of this threat. School officials said “the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”
Then on Thursday, October 5, it was reported in the Fort Dodge Messenger that an arrest had been made of a 16-year-old from Algona on a charge of Threat of Terrorism. It was reported that the teen used a social media post to make the threat. The threat was deemed “not-credible” and classes had resumed Thursday.
